project 3

artist statement: my original idea for this project was to do a photo collage of images i had taken at a previous time. i wanted to take images of different landscapes and compile them to create one new, unique piece. after many attempts to accomplish this idea, i decided to create a stereotypical panoramic landscape and turn it into something completely different. while still technically remaining a landscape, my new piece speaks to the ways in which common photographs can be altered for a dramatic effect.

  1. I saw a quick preview of this on Tuesday in class. While it isn't 40" panoramic, it is still (if not more) visually interesting.
I prefer the color image, but only the left half. Something about the inward orientation of the buildings speaks more to an idea of city that the outer one. As if a viewer is standing in the middle of a city looking to the sky. The other half of the image has a really strange effect--and, to me, is more stagnant.

  2. Ive gotta agree with Dave- i think the buildings spiraling out might be interesting in a 3D space but its not nearly as dynamic compositionally. I feel like the inward spiral places the viewer inside the space, literally being surrounded by the buildings

  3. I definitely prefer the color round image - it makes me feel like I'm looking up in the city with all the tall buildings leaning over me. I wonder how a sky in the middle would change the image? I think it would be great to print it on a square sheet of paper.
